Talking about the joys and sorrows of trying to grow a pollinator-friendly garden in northeast Florida, zone 9b. We have nutrient deficient, acidic soil(very sandy) and the land we have is mostly pine and turkey oak with the occasional live oak, red maple, pond cypress, and southern magnolia. Invasives abound, such as camphor, air potatoes, and coral ardisia. Native plants we have brought in include Florida star anise (smells like licorice!), Fakahatchee grass, Muhly grass, turkey tangle fogfruit (I love this name), yellow top, spotted bee balm, passion flower, coral honeysuckle, and sea grape. Already existing onsite are beautyberry, yucca, saw palmetto, sweetgum, Spanish moss, Bartram’s tillandsia, and more.
