A Froggy Day in the Neighborhood

Before I started work this morning I decided to get some potting soil into some plastic planters. This was to prepare for the transplanting of 3 of my Zinderella Purple zinnias from the hydroponics station. I started loosening up some unused soil in a large grow bag using my little garden trowel. I was being rather vigorous about this, scraping and digging and scooping. One of the clods of dirt jumped and scared me. It was not a clod. It was a toad. A Southern Toad.

I took a pic and sent it to my husband who loves toads and frogs. I then went to get my plastic planter. In the bottom of the planter something tiny was hopping around frantically. It was a cricket frog. It was tiny and hard to get a photo, but here’s my best effort.

So this day started with a herpetological cornucopia of creatures. There were also some cockroaches, but we won’t discuss them .
