I’m happy to share that I’ve found a new and interesting bee on our property. I was ambling down our trail that spans the length of the pond, looking for new plants/flowers/animals. I saw a male Red-bellied woodpecker, a red-shouldered hawk eating something sinewy, a turtle I couldn’t identify, and anoles. The only insect I found was this bee, which I thought was a bumble. I almost didn’t take a picture of it since I have a bunch of bumbles already. But it was quite noisy and cute bouncing from one blueberry flower to another. I posted it on iNaturalist and it came up as a Blueberry Digger Bee.

Other than the fact that it was definitely nectaring on a blueberry bush, I’m not sure how to distinguish it from a bumble bee. I’m an amateur when it comes to bees.

Since it will be around only for a couple of weeks, I’ll take my good camera out to the blueberry bushes tomorrow. I’d like to get a better photo.
