Pumpkin Pollinator!

Every morning I meander around my yards to take stock of what has changed, inspect damage done in the night, and to see whatever creatures might be warming up. Today, I saw some nice little creatures. I found an adorable frog (hopefully a green tree frog and not a Cuban frog) sitting in the leaves of the Meyer lemon tree. He was nestled in there, looking super cozy and content.

I kept moving along and immediately was surprised to see a huge pumpkin flower blooming on the Cider Jack pumpkin plants. I got the seeds from High Seed Mowing, and this is my first attempt to grow pumpkins. My mom had a huge pumpkin patch at our home in Levant, Maine when I was growing up. This is my attempt to mimic that experience.

A closer look at the flower led me to a beautiful iridescent green bee twining around, gathering pollen on her legs. It was a Brown-winged Striped Sweat Bee. She was so elegant looking and her color was striking against the orange color of the flower.
